🎤 Why am I a speaker?
Because I have an important message to share onstages around the world, both in-person and online. Don’t get me wrong. I do get nervous before I go on, my cheeks get red ☺️ (which is why I wear extra blusher) but Iremind myself it is not about me. I have had to do the work to become a good speaker and I am constantly learning. I focus on my message. How do I want to inspire my audience? What message do I want to impart with them? How will listening to me offer a different perspective and inspire someone to take action? This has been a core motivator for me. Which is why I am a self-proclaimed 'inspiring activator' 🤗
How did I become a speaker?
🌏Throughout my university years for our group projects we always had presentations to deliver in front of teachers, fellow students and external guests. During time at STR I sharpened my presentation and speaking skills, in front of large audiences around the world at conferences and virtual stages. All these skills I have been able to transfer to spread the message on #genderbalance and inclusive leadership.
My top tips onpublic speaking:
🏔Breathe. Take a breathe in between yoursentences, don’t just rush through them. Makes your audience nervous.
🏔Pause. Incredibly impactful and one wedo not use enough. Helps create anticipation and presence with your audience.
🏔Prepare. What works for you? Writing outwhat you will say, practising it out loud, recording yourself. Its about finding out what works best for you and then do it.
🏔 Feedback. Be open to it and ask for it. Itis a continuous learning journey. Each time I listen or watch myself back, there is something I want to improve or keep doing.
🏔Practise. Find or create as manyopportunities to put into practise public speaking. Confidence builds the more you practise.
What is the impact?: Visibility
🔦 The impact of being a speaker is #visibility . Forme it is visibility on my mission: #genderbalance. By putting myself out there, putting myself in the spotlight, believing in the power of my voice I am creating safe spaces for meaningful conversation to take place that will drive change.
I have two questions for you?
